Voices of Impact

Voices of Impact is a monthly journal on those in our community that are inspirational.

Knowing that inspiration can be born from the humblest of places.

We are single mothers, birth workers, artists, outspoken advocates, disruptors and the people who are quietly plugging away at life.

All our voices have meaning and deserve to be heard.

This is the point and the spectrum of life.

This is what makes a community and what opens our minds to different perspectives.

Shemana shine a spotlight on new person each month, those who impact the souls within and without these walls.

Who, Why and What are you?

My name is Brooke Macqueen. I am a mother, a writer, and an astrologer. An Aries Sun, Pisces Moon, Scorpio Rising.

How do you incorporate rituals into your life?

I honour the astrological seasons; they help me meet the moment. As a mother, set daily rituals often evade me, but one practice remains sacred:

I do not consume others’ creative work before creating something of my own. Writing, even a single word or line, sparks an entire conversation in my mind. It anchors me before the world rushes in.

What influences your rituals?

The sky and the sea bridge the unseen, tethering me to what cannot be named yet makes me feel whole. I move with the Moon, her rhythm a quiet reminder that change is constant. She waxes and wanes, shifting signs every 2.5 days, ushering in a new emotional tide.

When she is new, I begin. When she is full, I release.

And always, I return to the ocean. Water cleanses, water holds. It is both release and return, dissolving what was, and carrying me back to what remains.

What tools, if any, do you use to support your rituals?

I track planetary moments with my Magic of I diary and lately,

I anoint myself with Shemana Dream Therapy Body Oil before I sit down to write, a small act that signals to my body and imagination that it is time to create.
